Mountain Training England provider James Hewson in conjunction with Mile End Climbing Wall is offering the opportunity to participate in a Climbing Wall Instructor training course.
The Climbing Wall Award is a qualification for people wishing to supervise others at indoor climbing venues. As with most other climbing/mountaineering qualifications, all candidates must register with their relevant home nation Mountain Leader Training Board before embarking on the scheme.
CLIMBING WALL INSTRUCTOR
The Climbing Wall Instructor qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to supervise climbers on purpose built artificial climbing walls and boulders. It is ideal for people who work at climbing walls or at venues with permanent or mobile climbing towers.
The Climbing Wall Instructor qualification does not include the skills and techniques required to teach lead climbing.
This qualification used to be called Climbing Wall Award which was revised following a review and relaunched under this new name on 2nd April, 2018.

Before you attend a Climbing Wall Instructor training course, please make sure you have done the following:
James was a great source of knowledge and his playful persona made the course very enjoyable. It would have been nice to have some more practice time after the theory of certain techniques and concepts were discussed.

I enjoyed that the course was relaxed, well structured and very informative. I think I've come away with a very good understanding of what I need to continue to practice and what is required when I come to do the assessment. Learning about the work of other instructors, and of the possibility of setting up and delivering positive experiences for people was really inspiring and motivating. I also enjoyed the insight in to the history of climbing/equipment and how the whole context of climbing and it's origins in trad and alpine climbing were referenced.

The course was amazing & the instructor took us through explaining and allowing us to practice at our own pace. I developed my climbing skills even more with learning better techniques, learnt how to belay even more safely & how to instruct and deliver sessions and ensuring you think about the most important information and not to overload group participants. Also, I have an idea in how to develop my clients skills in different types of climbing indoors such as bouldering, roped climbing, ground anchors and slight fitness excercises with games around the climbing wall.

The delivery of the course was great. It would be nice if candidates could go away with reading material to help them progress through their consolidation period. The trainer was happy for candidates to contact him via e-mail if they have any problems.
