Could you be our next Trustee?

Development through Challenge (DtC) is a charity with a main focus in the area of youth development. We operate Mile End Climbing Wall, one of the longest established and most prestigious climbing centres in London. We provide East London and UK climbing communities with high quality climbing and associated facilities that are available to everyone regardless of ability to pay, physical ability, or skill level. We organise training and challenges that improve people’s wellbeing.

We are recruiting 2 Trustees who will initially be appointed for a 3-year term with a limit of 2 terms.

You will be a member of the board which is responsible for agreeing and overseeing the strategic direction of DtC with the input from the chief executive and senior management, who are then responsible for the implementation.

There is an agreed set of strategic goals for 2022 to 2025. These include making material advances in the diversity and accessibility for our membership as well as further improvements to our high-quality training and facilities. We are also focusing on best-in-class governance; how we can run increasingly sustainably and how we can best partner with local organisations with similar goals.

This is an excellent time to join the charity, we are in robust financial position and have exciting plans to further our charitable aims and the scope of climbing centre. These are going to require focus and effort - we are looking for individuals with the desire and passion and willingness to commit to help the charity increase its positive impact on the local community and wider climbing communities.

The board holds evening meetings monthly with strategic sessions annually.

We have an informal and focused approach. The current trustees encompass a diverse mix of backgrounds and experience. Following a skills audit we are specifically interested in applications from people with an accounting (ideally, but not essentially, with a qualification) and marketing/communications backgrounds. DtC has objectives for 2022 that will benefit from expertise in these areas.

Previous experience as a trustee or working for a charity is advantageous but not necessary.

This is a voluntary role.
