Getting Started

Planning your first visit to Mile End Climbing Wall and not sure where to start? There are three options:

1. Turn up and try

£5 registration fee plus £9.50 peak* or £7.50 off peak**

If you have little or no experience of climbing, we’ll show you around the centre and explain the basics of safe bouldering - ie, climbing without ropes above crash mats. Booking is not required.

After you’ve completed the induction tour, you can climb for as long as you can manage! This is without an instructor and at your own risk, and you won’t be registered to use the rope climbing area. £9.50/£7.50 pays for your climbing (peak or off peak) & the induction tour. £5.00 covers your (one-off) registration fee & if you need climbing shoes you can hire these for £3.00. (This is for over 18s only. For information on under 18s, please click here.)

*Peak times:

Monday-Friday 4pm-9:30pm, all day Sat & Sun

** Off Peak times:
Monday-Friday 10am-4pm

2. Taster Session

£20 for 1.5 hours

So you want to try climbing, but you’d prefer to spend your first time under the watchful eye of one of our qualified instructors? Or maybe you’re not sure if a Beginner’s Course is right for you and want a one-off session to get more of an idea.

The Taster Session has a maximum group size of 6 and gives you an 1½ hours of supervised climbing with the opportunity to try both bouldering and top-rope climbing. The sessions are available to anyone over 14 years old and must be booked in advance. It doesn’t provide full instruction to become a ‘competent climber’ (for that you’ll need our Beginners Course).

3. Beginners Course

6 hour course for £65 on weekday evenings or £55 at the weekend

The Beginners Course is the best way to go from climbing zero to hero! 6 hours of tuition from our qualified instructors, taking you through everything you need to know to become an independent and unsupervised top-rope climber.

Discover the basics of movement on the wall, find out how to handle ropes and harnesses – and how to use simple rope systems. This is a great way to get started and prepares you perfectly for progression to the next level. You can choose between a weekend or an evening weekday course.

You can save time at reception by registering in advance online.
