Getting Started

Planning your first visit to Mile End Climbing Wall and not sure where to start? There are three options:

1. Turn up and try (over 18's only)

£5 registration fee plus £11.00 peak* or £8.50 off peak**

If you have little or no experience of climbing, we’ll show you around the centre and explain the basics of bouldering - ie, climbing without ropes above crash mats. Booking is not required.

After you’ve completed the induction tour, you can climb for as long as you can manage! This is without an instructor and at your own risk, and you won’t be registered to use the rope climbing area. £11.00/£8.50 pays for your climbing (peak or off peak) & the induction tour. £5.00 covers your (one-off) registration fee & if you need climbing shoes you can hire these for £3.00. (This is for over 18s only. For information on under 18s, please click here.)

*Peak times:

Monday-Friday 4pm-9:30pm, all day Sat and Sun, and bank holidays

** Off Peak times:
Monday-Friday 10am-4pm

2. Taster Session

So you want to try climbing, but you’d prefer to spend your first time under the watchful eye of one of our qualified instructors? Or maybe you’re not sure if one of courses are right for you and want a one-off session to get more of an idea (please note. This is not a course, you will not be taught how to use the equipment or any techniques for climbing, it is a taster session aimed at providing an experience for people wishing to try the sport at an easy level under the watchful eye of our instructors. People wishing to learn the skills associated with climbing should partake in one of our Roped Climbing for Beginners or Introduction to Bouldering courses).

The Taster Session has a maximum group size of 6 and gives you an 1½ hours of supervised climbing with the opportunity to try both bouldering and top-rope climbing. The sessions are available to anyone over 14 years old and must be booked in advance. It doesn’t provide full instruction to become a ‘competent climber’ (for that you’ll need our Beginners Course).
